Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd September – Welcome Fair
The Welcome Fair aims to provide a warm welcome to all our new students and those who have recently started their courses.
Whether you are from Swansea, other parts of the UK or overseas, we know that finding your way around in the first few days can be stressful and you may feel overwhelmed by being in a new environment, meeting new people and being given lots of information all at once. You can’t miss the fair because it’s in the marquee in front of Fulton House in the centre of the University campus.
The Fair provides an opportunity to ask any questions you may have about your accommodation, your course, your support needs or any other aspect of your new life in Swansea. If you are an international student, this is the central focus for the International Students Orientation Programme. Come along and:
- collect your keys if you are in Singleton Campus accommodation
- collect your ID card to access University facilities and your first student finance maintenance payment
- collect your Freshers’ wristband which gives you entry to the full range of Students’ Union Freshers’ events and also your free t-shirt
- join the Flexible Dining Plan
- find out about sporting and recreational opportunities.
- find out about Student Support Services
- meet staff and students from your College and a number of University services
- take a campus tour (from the Student Support Services stand)
- collect your free notebook (from the Student Support Services stand)
Sunday 23rd September - Fresh and Free
This is the first evening event within the marquee. It is a Freshers only event and is a joint event between Student Residence Committees (SRCs) and Student Swansea Events (SSE).
The event is designed to help integrate people into their halls and houses. Upon arrival Freshers will be given a coloured t-shirt depending on where their accommodation is and this is their ticket to the event.
The event itself comprises of a number of local DJs and number of SU run bars including the Infamous Bomb Bar run by Sin City. The idea behind this is to create a social welcoming platform for Freshers that not only introduces them to the SRCs and SSE but provides a chance to meet people in the areas that they are living as the prospect of not knowing anyone can be daunting. So by having this they can join up with 3000 other people in the same situation.
- Fresh and Free has been voted the best annual event four years running and is one that is most certainly not to be missed.
- After you have moved into your accommodation and met your housemates it’s time to go out and party with them and 3000 other likeminded students. Even if you don’t know anyone, you will be able to see people who live in the same halls/ area as you so it is a perfect chance to meet people and make new friends.
- You will also be introduced to the SRC and your Student Events team, as well as the full time officers who will be having their very own Sound Clash. Not only that but Sin City and JCs will be hosting the bars, so with Sin’s infamous Bomb Bar to add to the party… this is one night you won’t forget!
